A little more than six months ago this was just one of these 58045084 ideas I toy with. You know the kind of ideas developers have in mind and buy tons of domain names for when they have time for it. Over the past few years, I have had a whole bunch of these. I actually bought twelve domain names over the past two years and am pretty sure I’m below what the average dev does. Out of these ideas, only two became fully-fledged projects: CoinzProfit, the crypto app I released early 2018 and People + Drink = Words.

Funnily enough, these are the only two that I actually worked on before buying the domain name. Heck, they didn’t even have a name until the last moment. For the longest time, CoinzProfit was under the SomeTestCryptoApp in XCode (the tool to build iOS/Mac apps). I only had to think of a name after I built it and felt like it could be useful to more than just me.

However, PDW followed a different pattern. I had the idea, then the name came but I still had doubts. As it turns out, I went for brunch with my girlfriend and a friend in early May. We went to Shack-Fuyu, a more than decent restaurant where you can have delicious bottomless brunch. Later on, I went to grab a drink and catch up with that friend and we spoke for a bit. Or so we thought. Upon looking at the time, we realised it had been almost three hours we spent discussing. We spoke about various things including that podcast idea. Before going home I even mentioned this could have been a great podcast episode.

As soon as I got home, I went on Amazon. Got some microphones and stands using next-day delivery. I went on to buy yet another domain name and voila, People + Drink = Words was born. A few days later I recorded the first episode with my girlfriend. A couple of episodes later, that friend joined for another nigh 3-hour conversation.

It has been six months now and I have been having a lot of fun. Talking with friends over a drink, learning new skills like editing sound and now even video. I simply love doing it. I also love that I can give it enough time to make it a thing. Although it can be overwhelming sometimes between work, the blog, the gaming etc, I am happy to be on this journey.

I am happy about the episodes so far and excited about the future ones and upcoming guests. I can’t wait for you to listen and/or watch what comes next. My mind is already blown by the forty people average tuning in to listen and the few others watching on Youtube. If you like it then keep coming. If you never listened, check at least the latest episode, maybe subscribe on your favourite podcast platform. While you do that I will be busy improving to deliver better and better episodes.

I’ll see you in the next one. In the meantime, I’ll release the episode seven sometime in December and will get back to shooting hopefully in January with a new setup. Once again, thanks to everyone supporting that adventure by inspiring, listening, sharing and joining in. That means a lot to me. To another six months!

Cover credit: Jean-Dominique Nguele, random holiday pic.
